The good, the bad and the itchy

It may seem quiet on the blog front, but I assure you that it has been anything but quiet here at the farm. We have been busy getting settled into our home, adjusting to getting all three kiddos off to school early each morning and having a house and property buzzing with contractors every single today. Today, I’m enjoying a rare, quiet morning with no one else in the house, topped off with *gasp* HOT COFFEE!

Wow... if this doesn't say it all, I wrote these words LAST WEEK and literally at that very moment I got a call from school to come pick up kid #1 because she said she had a sore throat, a second call an hour later to get kid #2 who refused to go back to class because she missed her twin, then, a few hours later, a call that kid #3 was being required to quarantine for TEN DAYS because of a school exposure (all 3 kids were/are healthy). I'd like to say that this is out of the ordinary, but this is truly just a normal day in the life around here.

Finished walls with grasscloth wallpaper

Ok, where were we? Let’s start with the good news we’ve all been waiting for. We have WALLS! I never knew my expectations could be that simple. I am overjoyed at the fact that we have walls. INSULATED walls, at that! They are so freaking beautiful. Oh, and don't forget the ceilings. Those are pretty nice to have now too. What, you didn't know we were without those for a bit too?

I have taken approximately 7,280 pictures over these last few weeks to document all of the projects and work happening here. So why haven’t I shared any of them yet? This is my struggle. With so much work happening all over the place, there are many projects started, but few that are finished. This has been a test of my patience. Some days I’m impressed at my ability to walk past unpainted walls, boxes of books and half-weeded gardens. Other days (most days) I wish there was more time to get things done so we can all feel settled and at home. This has been a big change for our family, and although it has been a TON of work up front, I know we have made the right decision. Sometimes when you are in the midst of the chaos, you can’t see the progress that happens from day to day or week to week.

I think I liked the popcorn ceiling better...

As I type all of this, it’s only now that I realize I need to not be so hard on myself. We are doing the best we can to make this our home, but it doesn’t happen overnight. Pretty pictures are great, but it’s not the full story. These pictures don't show all of the furniture crammed into the kitchen for two weeks while walls and ceilings were being torn down and replaced. They don't show the five us of us sharing a bathroom and fighting for a minute of privacy, or the half-eaten "presents" the barn cat likes to deliver on the back steps. Life is beautiful and messy and I want to share all of that with you. The half-weeded garden will have to wait… Side note, does anyone have any good remedies for a bad case of poison ivy? Not asking for a friend…
